50+ Fraud and Abuse Seminar-3

The Juanita C. Grant Foundation in collaboration with Prince George’s Parks and Recreation held its 3rd Elder Fraud Seminar Series at Evelyn Cole Senior Activity Center, Seat Pleasant, Maryland.

Opening speakers included Eugene W. Grant, Mayor Seat Pleasant, Devan A. Martin, Chief of Police Seat Pleasant and Franklin D. Shelton, Chief, Special Prosecution, Office of the State’s Attorney for Prince George’s County, Maryland. Joining our regular law enforcement panelists was guest presenter Detective D. Calloway, Seat Pleasant Police Department. Some of the areas discussed included preventive measures to take to avoid becoming a victim of fraud. Helpful pointers included do not responding to callers claiming to be the IRS or Social Security; do not give out your Social Security number; make social media accounts private to limit exposure; don’t post time and location for vacation; do not allow unscheduled solicitors into the home and be care of online shopping and dating schemes.
