Our 2023 Year End Report

2023 was a promising year, with the foundation returning full force to in-person direct services.

Our three core programs, Elder Abuse and Fraud Prevention Training, the Village Connector Experience,

and the 50+ Refresh Bootcamps exceeded our goals.

Results from the 2023 exit evaluation cards revealed 98.8% of attendees would be proactive in sharing the training information with their friends and family and take preventive steps to interrupt or prevent elder abuse and fraud.

Elder Abuse and Fraud Prevention

Training Series

The number of Elder Abuse and Fraud Prevention Trainings increased by 225% from 4 in 2022 to 13 in 2023. JCGF became co-partners with the US Department of Justice. We expanded training sites to include Cameron Grove, The Skybridge, Epiphany Church and Prince George’s League of Women Voters. Trainings were also expanded to Prince George’s County Parks and Recreation Community Centers this year in addition to their Senior Activity Centers. We added TRUIST Foundation, Prince George’s County Family Justice Center and the Cherry Law Group (estate planning) to our Federal, State and local law enforcement panel roster. Opening speakers expanded to include not only Prince George’s County members but also The Honorable Kym Taylor, State Delegate District 22 and Prince George’s NAACP President, Linda Thornton Thomas.

50+ Refresh

Bootcamps

JCGF conducted two 50+ Refresh Bootcamps graduating 26 Prince George’s County residents with transferable business skills to confidently seek the job of their choice. The intensive 7-week course provided wrap-around support for mapping professional goals, refining presentation skills, and building a professional online presence. Bootcamp members excelled in computer skills and navigating the multigenerational work culture. Graduates received a certificate of accomplishment and are supported through our Bootcamp alumni group.

Village Connector

Experience and Advocacy

The Village Connector Experience program of outreach calls to older adults intensified our efforts in helping our members build new self-interests and maintain social connections. We have incorporated the importance of social connectedness as part of the Juanita C. Grant Foundation's overall advocacy efforts. Older adults being actively involved with their friends and family helps strengthen the entire community. Friends can intervene when needed and families can provide extended support through life changes. We continue advocating through our one-on-one conversations with elected officials. We give voice to older adults through conference presentations and small group sessions. We advocate at each of our training sessions presenting data and first-hand testimonies on the benefits of lifelong career training opportunities, safe spaces for leisure, affordable housing, and accessible healthcare for older adults. As we enter 2024, the Juanita C. Grant Foundation will continue expanding our trainings and services, furthering these quality-of-life goals with your support.
