Juanita C. Grant Foundation Selected for Fourth Consecutive Spur Local Class, Earning Prestigious 2026–2030 Partnership
Fort Washington nonprofit recognized among the region's most impactful community organizations, securing four additional years of capacity-building support
FORT WASHINGTON, MD (June 22, 2026) — The Juanita C. Grant Foundation (JCGF) has once again earned recognition as one of the Greater Washington region's most impactful nonprofits, having been competitively selected for Spur Local's 2026–2030 Class of Critical Local Nonprofits. This marks the fourth consecutive selection for the Foundation, a distinction that reflects more than a decade of measurable community impact, innovation, and leadership in improving the lives of older adults.
Chosen from a highly competitive pool of nonprofit organizations across the District of Columbia, Maryland, and Virginia, JCGF is one of just 130 organizations selected to participate in Spur Local's signature four-year partnership. Formerly known as the Catalogue for Philanthropy: Greater Washington, Spur Local evaluates organizations based on demonstrated community need, program effectiveness, leadership, fiscal responsibility, and measurable outcomes. Selection serves as a trusted endorsement for donors, foundations, and corporate partners seeking to invest in high-performing local nonprofits.
As a member of the 2026–2030 class, JCGF will receive four years of capacity-building support, leadership development opportunities, strategic resources, and regional visibility through Spur Local's annual giving guide, which reaches thousands of philanthropic households throughout the Washington metropolitan area.
"This fourth consecutive selection is an extraordinary honor and a meaningful affirmation of our mission," said S. Orlene Grant, Founder and CEO of the Juanita C. Grant Foundation. "It reflects the dedication of our board, volunteers, partners, and supporters who share our commitment to ensuring that every older adult can age with dignity, purpose, safety, and connection. Spur Local's continued confidence in our work strengthens our ability to expand innovative programs that address some of the most pressing challenges facing older adults today."
For more than twelve years, the Foundation has developed evidence-based, community-driven solutions through research, advocacy, and strategic partnerships. In 2026, JCGF launched its Forward Together Initiative, an integrated framework designed to address the interconnected issues of ageism, social isolation, financial exploitation, elder abuse, mental wellness, and systemic inequities disproportionately affecting older adults, particularly within communities of color.
The Forward Together Initiative includes several signature programs:
- Village Connector Experience™, a nationally recognized outreach and social connection initiative designed to reduce loneliness and strengthen community engagement.
- Fraud, Scams and Elder Abuse Prevention Training Series, empowering older adults and caregivers to recognize, prevent, and report financial exploitation.
- Wellness and Social Network Mapping Workshops, helping participants strengthen protective social connections while promoting emotional and mental well-being.
The Foundation's impact continues to grow through collaborative partnerships with organizations including the U.S. Department of Justice Elder Justice Initiative, the United States Attorney's Office for the District of Maryland, local law enforcement, financial institutions, libraries, and community organizations dedicated to protecting older adults.
Over the next four years, JCGF will leverage Spur Local's comprehensive capacity-building resources to expand programming, strengthen organizational sustainability, cultivate new partnerships, and deepen its impact across the region.
