JCGF Launched Pilot Training Program With PGCMLS

Oct 13, 2020

The Prince George’s County Memorial Library System will emerge as the newest Village Connector Experience Ambassadors.

Capitol Heights, MD, Oct. 12, 2020: Joining the ranks of local and national allies of the Juanita C. Grant Foundation’s latest initiative, the Prince George’s County Memorial Library System has become the newest partner to join the Village Connector Experience, an initiative which was designed to mitigate the loneliness and isolation generally experienced by older Americans and worsened by the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Prince George’s County Memorial Library System (PGCMLS) is a valued and trusted community-driven organization, currently serving the 910,000+ residents of Prince George’s County, Maryland at all of its 19 branches, as well as online through virtual events and book-lending. Staff of the Prince George’s County Memorial Library System will participate in the Village Connector Experience’s pilot training program, after which they will begin to contribute three to four hours of their time to the program every week, alongside regular library responsibilities as they work remotely from their individual homes.

“We are pleased to expand our partnership with Prince George’s County Memorial Library System in providing an added dimension to the work life of the library staff,” said JCGF President & CEO, S. Orlene Grant. “As certified VCE Ambassadors, the library staff will be providing structured calls to older adults that have requested the service, to help disrupt social isolation intensified by COVID-19 social distancing.” With PGCMLS’s help, the Juanita C. Grant Foundation hopes to expand the scale of the VCE’s operations, providing a much-needed source of comfort and engagement to older Americans around the country.
