JCGF Leadership Presents At Annual Legislative Briefing

Feb 11, 2022

President S. Orlene Grant provided perspective on the needs of an aging population

Capitol Heights, MD, February 9, 2022: On Sunday, February 6th, S. Orlene Grant, President and CEO of the Juanita C. Grant Foundation, spoke on a panel at the Prince George's County Commission for Women's 2022 Legislative Briefing titled, "Women Moving Forward and Upward". In this briefing, participants were educated and informed about proposed legislation and policies that directly impact women, girls, and families, as well as the factors that affect their well-being. Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the briefing was conducted virtually via Zoom.

In addition to creating awareness through an intersectional approach, this year's legislative briefing also provided constituents with an opportunity to participate in the legislative process, while also stressing the importance of citizen engagement, civic duty, and empowerment. Among the topics on the agenda were food insecurity, elder protection, and the intersection of law enforcement and community.

“It was an honor to be part of the Prince George’s County Commission for Women's 2022 Legislative Briefing,” said S. Orlene Grant, JCGF President and CEO. “As a panelist of the Elder Protection and Safety Workshop, it was important to drive home the foundation’s goal of being proactive about maintaining social connections with family and friends as we age together. It is critical to educate oneself on subtle and overt signs of elder abuse and financial fraud.”

“The purpose of our Elder Abuse and Financial Fraud Prevention Education Series, which is offered in-person and via webinar, is to raise public awareness, inform participants about law enforcement resources, and empower individuals to intervene with family and friends when they recognize red flags of abuse or financial fraud schemes,” she said. “The range of speakers at the briefing helped to remind us all that through activism we can make a difference in improving the lives of girls and women of all ages, with thoughtful legislation at the local, state, and federal levels.”
