JCGF Teams Up With Local Government Service Center to Advance Cause Against Elder Abuse

Jul 13, 2020

Approximately 1 in 10 Americans aged 60 and over have experienced some form of elder abuse, with an estimated 5 million elders being abused each year. It is no secret that one of the Juanita C. Grant Foundation’s most ardent causes is its campaign against elder abuse and exploitation, and so, JCGF is proud to announce its partnership with the Prince George’s County Family Justice Center in an effort to address this critical issue.

JCGF joins the ranks of other community-based partnering organizations working to administer to the needs of survivors of abuse, in a continuous advancement towards the Family Justice Center’s vision of collaborated, coordinated and holistic care.

The Prince George’s County Family Justice Center is an initiative of the Circuit Court and is dedicated to providing support to survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, human trafficking and elder abuse. In collaboration with community-based partners, the Family Justice Center aims to comprehensively address systemic social welfare issues in a compassionate manner and welcomes the unique perspective and expertise of the Juanita C. Grant Foundation.

“Staff and partnering organizations here at the Prince George’s County Family Justice Center pride ourselves on helping those facing the challenges of abuse no matter where they are in their life span,” said the center’s Director, Dr. Denise C. McCain. “Elder abuse is a very serious problem in our community. We are fortunate to have the Juanita C. Grant Foundation on-site to address the needs of this oftentimes marginalized and vulnerable population. Services provided by the Juanita C. Grant Foundation are greatly needed and will enhance our overall service delivery process.”

Together, these two local advocates along with many others in the community, continue to build towards a future of empowerment, hope, and dignity in aging.

JCGF is enthusiastic about the partnership aligning mutual goals to educate and prevent older adults becoming victims of abuse and financial fraud. "The Juanita C. Grant Foundation fervently believes the partnership with the Family Justice Center will enhance our collective efforts to equip older adults with critical information to help protect themselves by recognizing red flags of potential scams and accessing immediate assistance in an abusive situation", said S. Orlene Grant, President and CEO.
