New Partnership Between Aging Advocacy Organizations Will Benefit Older Americans Nationwide

Jul 12, 2020

The Juanita C. Grant Foundation (JCGF) advanced one step closer to its goal of empowering the 50+ community nationwide by partnering with the National Council on Aging. Together, these two organizations hope to widen the scope of anti-ageism advocacy, creating awareness about the challenges of aging, providing much-needed resources and elevating quality of life.

This partnership comes on the heels of JCGF’s launch of its new Village Connector Experience, which seeks to interrupt the cycle of social isolation faced by an inordinate number of older Americans. Together, JCGF ad the NCOA will continue to champion the needs of aging Americans and take a stand against the many forms that ageism takes. This is a very critical time for aging advocacy in America, as many older adults face economic uncertainty, prolonged social distancing, and vulnerability due to COVID-19. Older adults continue to work towards raising awareness of implicit bias that can be dismissive and present negative images of aging. JCGF and NCOA aim to change that by equipping individuals with resources to safeguard their health and economic security while simultaneously calling on governmental bodies to make significant changes in the areas that affect this community.

“The National Council on Aging is honored to enter into a partnership with the Juanita C. Grant Foundation to work on preserving and strengthening the economic security of older adults, their caregivers, their families and communities as they age,” said Vivian Nava-Schellinger, Associate Director of Strategic Partnerships & External Affairs at the NCOA. “Moreover, we are looking forward to engaging the local Prince George County, Maryland, and surrounding DC community with opportunities to learn more about their eligibility for benefits to pay for medicine, healthcare, and food- to create positive change and help to dismantle systemic inequalities for all.”

JCGF is equally delighted by the alliance, citing the NCOA’s reputation as a respected national leader dedicated to helping people aged 60+ meet the challenges of aging. “The Juanita C. Grant Foundation is proud to enter into a partnership with NCOA, working towards the common goal of improving the lives of older adults,” said S. Orlene Grant, President and CEO. “In particular we look forward to collaborating on community engagement developing strategies with resources on the ground that will enhance economic security, disrupt social isolation of older adults increased by the pandemic and address long standing inequities experienced by older adults in communities of color.”
