ENGAGING OLDER ADULTS IMPACTED BY COVID-19 SOCIAL ISOLATION

"Testimonials"

This is why we do what we do.

"Very helpful with loneliness. Three times a week I get a Sunshine call during the Covid 19 experience. It is so nice to receive encouraging words."

At 71 years old, Mr. Terry R. Baxter of Grand Junction, Colorado was feeling lonely and isolated with the advent of COVID-19. Through his encounters with Meals on Wheels, Mr. Baxter learned about an outreach call program to combat social isolation in older adults. The service provides calls from trained Ambassadors one to three times per week to disrupt that sense of loneliness. Mr. Baxter signed as a member with VCE in late August 2020 and was paired with VCE Ambassador Ms. LaVone Holden. Mr. Baxter states the Village Connector Experience is “very helpful with loneliness. Three times a week I get a Sunshine call during the COVID-19 experience. It is so nice to receive encouraging words.”
