2020 Call for Board Nominations

The Juanita C. Grant Foundation (JCGF) is accepting nominations of qualified individuals to serve on the Board of Directors. Board terms are three years. Board members represent the Juanita C. Grant Foundation and are advocates for its mission and activities. Responsibilities include governance and leadership of the organization’s operations. JCGF board members reflect the various landscapes in which Maryland, District of Columbia and Virginia. nonprofits operate, and advocate for JCGF’s mission. While Board member recruitment is a continuous process, twice a year JCGF formally conducts community outreach for new board members. For 2020, recruitment process opens in November 2019 closing on January 15, 2020; opens in May 2020 and closing in June 2020. Interested applicants should complete the attached Board Application form according to closing dates.

JCGF is a 501(c) 3 non-profit serving the Greater Washington area. JCGF provides education and training, advocacy and research addressing economic insecurity, workforce development and quality of life challenges for the 50+ community. We seek a wide spectrum of committed candidates representing Maryland, District of Columbia and Virginia’s nonprofit sector. Self-nominations are welcomed. Every board member must participate as an active officer of the board and/or as a member of a committee or
taskforce. Board members are expected to participate in all scheduled board meetings.

Commitment

• Dedicated time to fulfill board service commitments
• Maintain an active role throughout tenure on Board of Directors
• Yearly pledge of $400 for board dues to support the organization

JCGF Board Election Process
The Nominating Committee determines the slate of eligible candidates. The Nominating Chair submits the slate to the entire board for consideration. The board then votes on each candidate.

Winter Board Call Timeline
November 1, 2019: Nominations open
December 20, 2019: Nominations close at 4 pm
January 20, 2020: Candidates notified of results

How to Submit a Nomination
Persons interested in submitting his or her name for consideration must complete the enclosed information. The completed nomination form is emailed to mholmes@jcgfdn.org by 4 pm December 20, 2019.

Background Information-Please state:
  • Name, employer, title, and contact information
  • Address, best phone number, email and LinkedIn addresses
  • If affiliated with a nonprofit or Juanita C. Grant Foundation associate, please provide details
Briefly answer the following questions no more than 2 pages:
  • Why do you want to serve on the Juanita C. Grant Foundation Board of Directors?
  • What relevant experience(s) and skill sets would enhance the board in furthering its mission?
  • Which Board of Director backgrounds reflect your experience and talents:

Only complete nomination submission will be considered. An acknowledgement email will be sent upon receipt of the nomination.
