Another Year of Service and Gratitude

December 14th offers those of us at the Juanita C. Grant Foundation (JCGF) a moment to pause and reflect each year on whether we made an impact in the lives of older adults. And with the passing of this December anniversary, we will be entering our 10th year advocating for and providing service to improve the lives of 50+ older adults.
This year we continued to expand on our efforts, celebrated our leader’s recognition and personal development and returned to in-person events. For example:
In May 2022, during Older Americans Month, we hosted a virtual national event such as our Townhall Webinar during Older Americans Month entitled Transformative Ideas Embracing Aging, “Practical Steps and Emerging Trends” with guests from the National Council on Aging, the NextFifty Initiative, and the Coalition to End Social Isolation & Loneliness.
Our CEO and President, S. Orlene Grant successfully completed an Executive Certificate Program in Nonprofit Management at The Georgetown University McCourt School of Public Policy.
Ms. Grant was also recognized with the National Council on Aging 2022 Innovator Award, an award that recognizes an individual or organization who has created innovative solutions to improve the health and economic security of older adults in the community. Ms. Grant was nominated for JCGF’s Village Connector Experience (VCE) service, a national outreach call program. The VCE was established during the pandemic to help combat social isolation. It is still in operation today with members in over 20 states.
And finally, we returned to in-person programming by launching our 2022 Elder Abuse and Fraud Prevention series. We hosted four sessions across Prince George’s County with the support of our county leadership and expert panelists. Dates are being finalized now for our 2023 series.
We are humbled by the growing support and acknowledgement of Ms. Grant and the Foundation’s work. Over these last nine years, we could only have achieved what we did because of the support of our many partners, such as the National Council on Aging, the NextFifty Initiative, Coalition to End Social Isolation & Loneliness, Employ Prince George’s, Chattanooga Goodwill Senior Community Employment Program, Family Justice Center, Prince George’s Department of Recreation and Parks and the Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission, Department of Justice, Federal Trade Commission, Prince George’s County law enforcement, Maryland States Attorney’s Office.
We are proud of what we have been able to accomplish, especially since the pandemic. Our work will continue with the intensity we had when the Foundation was first launched. We invite you to join us on this journey.
Here’s to a year of gratitude and abundance for all.
